A recruiter fills empty seats, makes hires against job descriptions. A headhunter, oftentimes works through the business and hiring strategy, crafts the right job description and then recruits talent that suits the role. In both cases, as a candidate, your first round interview is with the recruiter/headhunter.

I find that most candidates with a brand background recognize this. I find that most candidates in the agency world only look at the first conversation as purely transactional. I don't entirely share this from a point of self-empowerment but rather a note to help you potentially re-frame your understanding of the recruitment process.
