I hear this a lot: "I want to build a team." Or, "I want to manage a team." Or both. Do you find yourself saying this? Might I suggest you stop saying it like that.
For one thing, most of my clients are founders or C-suite. They would be thinking, and some would tell you, "It's my job to build a team."
I get you. You're thinking about it differently. But I suggest a different framing like, "I'm qualified and have a POV to help shape the X strategy and then the know-how to bring the right resources to the execution of the agreed upon strategy."
Nobody doesn't like a builder. But in the world of creative and our shifting media space, position yourself as a co-architect and planning partner, not just the general contractor.
